OPENING SCRIPTURE:

“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. (Revelation 3:20 NLT)

• This is an invitation for intimacy, relationship, and friendship with the Creator.
• This is a gentleman’s invitation. Jesus refuses to force Himself upon anyone.

Before this invitation, there was a strong rebuke in Revelation 3:15-17

The Church of Laodicea: prosperous, comfortable, and self-sufficient. Yet spiritually, they were lukewarm — apathetic and indifferent toward God.

“I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth! You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. (Revelation 3:15-17 NLT)

• Instead of condemnation, Jesus extends a generous invitation.

#1: An Invitation To Relationship, Not Religion

• It speaks of the nature and character of Jesus: a gentleman who will not force his way.
• It reveals His true intention: “to share a meal together as friends”
• Relationship v/s Religion.

Religion: focuses external practices — rituals, traditions, appearances, and checklists of do’s and don’ts. It can be a form of godliness without the power (2 Timothy 3:5).

Relationship: focuses on internal transformation: knowing and being known. Knowing Him and Him knowing us.

I no longer call you servants…Instead, I have called you FRIENDS. (John 15:15 NIV)

• Friendship that you can trust and rely on.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest… learn from me.” (Matthew 11:28–29)

#2: An Invitation To Renewal And Restoration

Jesus doesn’t knock on perfect doors; He knocks on broken ones.

• The invitation of Revelation 3:20 is one of renewal and restoration.

Renewal: To be revived, refreshed, and made alive again.

“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” (Isaiah 1:18)

• Renewal means forgiveness and a clean slate.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10)

• Renewal is God giving us a new heart and restored passion.

Restoration:  To bring something back to its original beauty and purpose.

“If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

• Christ restores us into a new creation.

“I will restore to you the years that the locust has eaten.” (Joel 2:25)

• God doesn’t just forgive; He restores what was lost.

#3: An Invitation To Fellowship And Fulfilment

Jesus says: “If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends” (Revelation 3:20 NLT)

Fellowship: In the ancient world, to share a meal was to share life.

• This invitation was not just a one-time encounter but an ongoing communion with Him.

“Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” (John 14:23)

• Fellowship is God dwelling with us, not just visiting.

Fulfillment: Fulfillment is about being satisfied in your soul and in your spirit. Fulfillment comes from God’s presence

“I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35
