Conquering Fear- Part 4 (05/24/2020)

June 13, 2020

THE FEAR OF LACK will cause you to be believe: GOD IS NOT ENOUGH FOR YOU

OPENING SCRIPTURE: And GOD will GENEROUSLY PROVIDE ALL YOU NEED. Then you will always have EVERYTHING you NEED and PLENTY LEFT OVER TO SHARE WITH OTHERS. (2 Corinthians 9:8 NLT)

  • God will not just meet your needs partially but will provide for it all
  • WHATEVER YOU NEED, HE WILL PROVIDE!
  • But God does not stop there: YOU’LL HAVE PLENTY LEFT OVER TO SHARE WITH OTHERS
  • If God can get it through you, He will get it to you!

GOD WANTS TO BE FIRST. GOD WANTS YOU TO TRUST HIM.

1 Kings 17:2-16. The story of Elijah and the widow

2 Then the word of the Lord came to him (Elijah), saying, “Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I HAVE COMMANDED the ravens to feed you there.” ….

The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook. And it happened after a while that THE BROOK DRIED UP, because there had been no rain.

  • The place where God has called you, He has commanded His provision
  • Here’s a lesson from the brook: it will dry up!
  • When the brook runs dry god will line up another provision stream

Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, ARISE, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I HAVE COMMANDED A WIDOW THERE TO PROVIDE FOR YOU.”

Elijah met the widow and asked her: “Bring me a little water and while you are at it can get me a piece of bread”

  • Now she was perfectly fine fetching the water, but listen her reaction when Elijah asked for bread. She was mad!

12 “As the Lord your God lives, I DO NOT HAVE BREAD, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, THAT WE MAY EAT IT, AND DIE.”

  • I’m not so sure you can pick up her tone in the NKJ.
  • God was rerouting her provision stream- from the oil jar and the flour bin back to Him

13 And Elijah said to her, “DO NOT FEAR; go and do as you have said, but MAKE ME a small cake from it FIRST, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. 14 For thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘THE BIN OF FLOUR SHALL NOT BE USED UP, NOR SHALL THE JAR OF OIL RUN DRY, UNTIL THE DAY THE LORD SENDS RAIN ON THE EARTH.’ ”

  • YOU DON’T APPROACH LIFE WITH A FEAR OF LACK
  • GOD IS YOUR EL SHADDAI, YOUR ALL SUFFICIENT GOD! DON’T FEAR!

Here’s how this story ends:

15 So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and SHE AND HE AND HER HOUSEHOLD ATE FOR MANY DAYS. 16 THE BIN OF FLOUR WAS NOT USED UP, NOR DID THE JAR OF OIL RUN DRY

Her source was no longer the jar of oil nor the flour bin. Her provision stream was rerouted back to God

FINAL THOUGHT: God wants sit on the throne of your hearts. This is what Jesus said in Matthew 6:24-25

NO ONE CAN SERVE TWO MASTERS. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. YOU CANNOT SERVE GOD AND BE ENSLAVED TO MONEY.

  • Jesus is not saying money is evil. Money is simply a tool to do what God wants us to do.
  • What Jesus is asking here is: Who is sitting on the throne of your life? Is it me or is it money? It cannot be both

“That is why I tell you NOT TO WORRY ABOUT EVERYDAY LIFE—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?

  • Worry invites fear. Fear dethrones God in your life!
