Conquering Your Thoughts – Week 3 (06/05/2022)

June 5, 2022

OPENING SCRIPTURE:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; DO NOT DEPEND ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING. SEEK HIS WILL, and he will show you which path to take. (Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT)

  • The way you frame your world define your perception. Perception is the lens through which you view the world around you. Your perception creates your reality
  • If our lenses are based on the world instead of the Word of God, our perception would be altered.
  • If the lenses are defective, your perception would also be defective.
  • The frame would also be defective.
  • In Psychology, there’s a name for this: Cognitive Biases. A mistaken reasoning based on personal experiences or preferences.

HOW DO WE REFRAME OUR MIND SO THAT WE DON’T DEVELOP THESE COGNITIVE BIASES?

TOOL #1: THE WORD OF GOD

  • Without the Word of God to frame our values and morality, our perception of reality would drift towards the latest trend, pop culture, latest narrative.

So we must LISTEN VERY CAREFULLY to the TRUTH we have heard, or we may DRIFT AWAY from it. (Hebrews 2:1 NLT)

Who should set the standard for marriage? You or God or government?

This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. (Genesis 2:24 NLT)

  • Marriage is covenant between a man and woman and God.

Who should set the standard for life of the unborn? You or God or government?

“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5 NLT)

  • Life begins at conception.

How sweet your words taste to me; they are sweeter than honey. Your COMMANDMENTS give me UNDERSTANDING; no wonder I hate every false way of life. YOUR WORD is a LAMP to GUIDE MY FEET and a LIGHT FOR MY PATH. (Psalm 119:103-105 NLT)

TOOL# 2: THANK GOD FOR WHAT HE DID NOT DO

Be THANKFUL in ALL CIRCUMSTANCES, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:18 NLT)

  • THANKFUL in ALL CIRCUMSTANCES– circumstances that are in our favor but also those who do not seem to be in our favor.
  • Thanking God for what He has done is easy. But also thank Him for what He has not done.

TOOL #3: LOOK FOR GOD’S GOODNESS

This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24 NLT)

  • If you look for what’s bad and negative, you will find bad and negative.
  • If you look for things to be critical of, there will always be something to criticize.
  • If you look for God’s goodness, you will see it. You will start seeing His fingerprints.

CONCLUSION

  • What is the Holy Spirit saying to you through this message?
