Do Something – Pt 1

Do Something – Pt 1

July 20, 2025

OPENING STATEMENT: Our Christian faith, our walk with God revolves around doing just that: “Do Something” It is not just all God, we have a role to play. Doing nothing, gets you nothing! We have to get off the spiritual couch and do something!

OPENING SCRIPTURE:

In the same way, FAITH by itself, if IT IS NOT ACCOMPANIED BY ACTION, is DEAD. (James 2:17 NIV)

Faith does not just require action, faith is action. Faith is movement.

2 Kings 7: 3-8

Four lepers were trapped in a siege outside of the city gates of a starving city. Surrounded by famine and fear, they made a decision: To do Something.

“Now there were four men with leprosy at the entrance of the city gate. They said to each other, ‘Why stay here until we die? If we say, “We’ll go into the city”—the famine is there, and we will die. And if we stay here, we will die. So let’s go over to the camp of the Arameans and surrender. If they spare us, we live; if they kill us, then we die.'”

At dusk THEY GOT UP AND WENT to the camp of the Arameans. When they reached the edge of the camp, NO ONE WAS THERE, for the Lord had caused the Arameans to hear the sound of chariots and horses and a great army, so that they said to one another, “Look, the king of Israel has hired the Hittite and Egyptian kings to attack us!” So they got up and fled in the dusk and abandoned their tents and their horses and donkeys. They left the camp as it was and ran for their lives.

The men who had leprosy reached the edge of the camp, entered one of the tents and ate and drank. Then they took silver, gold and clothes, and went off and hid them. (2 Kings 7:5-8 NIV)

When you move, God will move with you!

#1: Faith Requires Action – Not just Intention

Let us RUN with perseverance the race marked out for us, FIXING OUR EYES ON JESUS, the pioneer and PERFECTER OF FAITH. (Hebrews 12: 1-2 NIV)

  • Faith requires action, movement
  • As we run our faith is perfected. Jesus is the perfecter of our faith.

The lepers had a choice: Wait and die or move and maybe live.

  • Their situation did not change until they moved.
  • Don’t let fear of failure paralyze your faith.

#2: God Honors Movement, Even if it’s small

“The Lord DIRECTS THE STEPS of the godly. HE DELIGHTS in EVERY DETAIL OF THEIR LIVES.” (Psalm 37:23 NLT)

  • The lepers’ small act of courage met the mighty hand of God.
  • Their movement turned into a miraculous breakthrough.
  • Don’t wait for the perfect plan. Take the next step.

#3: Doing Unlocks What Knowing Alone Cannot

“If you KNOW these things, BLESSED are you if you DO them.” (John 13:17 ESV)

  • Faith was never meant to be just learned – It was meant to be lived
  • Doing is more important than knowing. When you do, you move forward
  • These lepers knew the city was on a famine. But that knowledge did not feed them.
  • What fed them was walking into the unknown and discovering God’s provision.

“Why sit we here until we die?” (2 Kings 7:3)

God did not give you faith just to believe. He gave you faith to act.
