Hearing His Voice – Part 3

Hearing His Voice – Part 3

July 16, 2023

I have neglected God and His angels for the noise of a fly, the rattling of a roach and the whining of a door. (John Donne, 17th Century English poet)
• Distractions distort the frequency of His voice.

#1 The whisper of His voice is found in silence.

Be still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10 NKJ)

• The frequency of His voice is sometimes outside of human range.
• The frequency range for a human to hear is between 20 hertz to 20,000 hertz.
• Anything below 20 hertz is called infrasonic. It cannot be heard but it is still sound.
• Anything above 20,000 hertz is called ultrasonic. It cannot be heard but it is still sound.
• Just because you cannot hear God audibly does not mean he is not speaking.

#2 The whisper of His voice can be felt.

When God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise: “Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also.” (Hebrews 12:26 NLT)

• The sound of his voice might not be heard but can certainly be felt.
In August 1883, a volcanic eruption on the Indonesian island of Krakatoa produced the loudest sound ever recorded: 310-decibel.
• The sound waves travelled the globe 4 times. People on the other side of the world could not hear the sound but they could feel it.
• The same is true about the voice of God. Just because you cannot hear it, does not mean He is not speaking. The frequency of His voice has no limits.
• He speaks through His word as well as through circumstances.

#3 The Whisper of His voice is friendship.

So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. (Exodus 33:11 NKJ)

Truth #1: God seeks your friendship.

No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. (John 15:15 NKJ)

• The secret to hearing God’s voice is all about friendship with Him.

“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. (Revelation 3:20 NLT)

Truth #2: God speaks to His friends.

“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. (John 16:12-13 NKJ)

Truth #3 His Friendship is Everlasting

• His relationship with you is based on His unconditional love!

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love?… And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. (Romans 8:37, 38 NLT)

• Even the things that are outside of your control cannot separate you from His love and friendship.

Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39 NLT)
His friendship with you is eternal!
