Opening Scripture:

“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. (1 King 19:11 NLT)

• God instructed Elijah: Go out and stand before Him.
• In that cave, all he could hear was the voice of the enemy: Shame, guilt and condemnation.

Come close to God, and God will come close to you. (James 4:8 NLT)
• Come out of that cave and I will meet you.
• When you find a way out. that voice has the tendency to pull you back to that cave.

Thought to ponder: How do you silence that voice?

And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32 NLT)
• Knowing the truth gets you out of that cave. But applying that truth keeps you out of that cave.

Thought to ponder: How can we approach God, who is holy, when I am so unworthy?

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. (Romans 3:23 NLT)
• None of us is worthy.

Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. (Romans 3:24 NLT)
• Jesus Himself paid the price for us to get out of that cave and stand before Him.

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. (Hebrews 4:16 NLT)
• Our ticket to get of that cave is boldness to approach God.

When you value what God says, His voice becomes clearer!
How do we value what God his voice?

#1 SET UP A TIME

• This is how we spell value: T-I-M-E
• Honor Him with your time.
• Greek word for honor is “TEMEE” pronounced as TIME.
• Set up a time to meet with God and to hear His voice.
• God Himself set up a time to meet and talk to His people:

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes. And let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. (Exodus 19: 10-11 NKJ)
• God took the TIME to set up an appointment to meet with His people.

And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by voice. (Exodus 19:19)

# 2 BE STILL AND WORSHIP

“Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10 NKJ)

• This is the hardest thing for people to do– to be still in order to hear His voice!
• Busyness of life can sometimes be the biggest distraction.
• The frequency of His voice is clearer when we are still.
• Being still does not mean doing nothing:
• Jackie Chan in Karate Kid: “Being still and doing nothing are different things”
You will not need to fight in this battle. POSITION YOURSELVES, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. (2 Chronicles 20:17 NKJ)
• How did they position themselves? In worship!
• God instructed the King to put the worshippers in the frontline.

#3 PRAY AND READ

I rise early, before the sun is up I cry out for help and put my hope in your words. (Psalm 119:147 NLT)

• Crying out for help here is praying and putting your hope in his words here is reading the Bible.
• What to pray for: Pray what is on your heart.
• What to read: Read a version of the Bible that is easy to understand.

#4 LISTEN AND WRITE

Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. (Proverbs 3:6 Msg)
• When we listen to God’s voice, we get instructions on what to do and where to go.

“All this,” (God’s plans) said David, “the Lord made me understand in writing, by His hand upon me, all the works of these plans.” (1 Chronicles 28:19 NLT)
• What David is saying here is this: When I wrote it down, I understood it.
• Hearing His voice should not be an anomaly but an expectation!
