• God is always speaking; the question is are we listening for His voice.
• God speaks in loud audible voice as well as a gentle whisper. He speaks through His word as well as through circumstances.

Meanwhile, the boy Samuel served the Lord by assisting Eli. Now in those days messages from the Lord were very rare, and visions were quite uncommon. (1 Samuel 3:1 NLT)

• God does not stop speaking, we just quit listening!

One night Eli, who was almost blind by now, had gone to bed. The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was sleeping in the Tabernacle near the Ark of God. Suddenly the Lord called out, “Samuel!”
“Yes?” Samuel replied. “What is it?” He got up and ran to Eli. “Here I am. Did you call me?” (1 Samuel 3: 2-5 NLT)

• Samuel could hear a voice, but he did not recognize God’s frequency.

“I didn’t call you,” Eli replied. “Go back to bed.” So he did. Then the Lord called out again, “Samuel!” Again Samuel got up and went to Eli. “Here I am. Did you call me?” “I didn’t call you, my son,” Eli said. “Go back to bed.” Samuel did not yet know the Lord because he had never had a message from the Lord before. (1 Samuel 3: 5-7 NLT)

Samuel lived in the tabernacle. He did not just come to church, he lived in the church and yet He did not know God.

So the Lord called a third time, and once more Samuel got up and went to Eli. “Here I am. Did you call me?” Then Eli realized it was the Lord who was calling the boy. So he said to Samuel, “Go and lie down again, and if someone calls again, say, ‘Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went back to bed. And the Lord came and called as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” (1 Samuel 3:8-10 NLT)
And Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.” Then the Lord said to Samuel, “I am about to do a shocking thing in Israel. (1 Samuel 3:10-11 NLT)

#1 HIS VOICE IS IN YOU

• The ability to hear God is already in you.
• From Genesis, the very moment God breathe life into man, He hardwired man with the ability to hear His voice.
• Why? Just because His is God and He cares about mankind.

When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars you set in place what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor. You gave them charge of everything you made, putting all things under their authority (Psalm 8:3-6 NIV)

• God cares about mankind you and me.

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. (Psalm 139: 13-14 NIV)

• Why would God go through that much trouble and not give you the ability to communicate with Him?
• Samuel means: “heard from God”.
• The story of Samuel serves as a reminder: God hears us and that He has created us with the ability to hear His voice.

MY SHEEP HEAR MY VOICE, and I KNOW THEM, and THEY FOLLOW ME. (John 10:27 NKJ)

• Difference between hearing and listening.
• ‘Hearing’ is a physical yet passive act involving the process and function of perceiving sound.
• ‘Listening’ is hearing the sounds with deliberate intention.
• Hearing is receiving the message, but listening is acting upon the received message.
• They follow means, they obey my voice. My voice is louder in their lives than any other voices.
They won’t follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don’t know his voice.” (John 10:5 NLT)

#2 HIS VOICE IS REPETITIVE

• Have you noticed that when God is trying to get your attention, He repeat things?

It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. (Isaiah 55:11 NLT)

• His voice, through His Word, will always produce fruits.

#3 HIS VOICE IS LOUDEST WHEN YOU REST

Then Eli realized it was the Lord who was calling the boy. So he said to Samuel, “Go and lie down again, and if someone calls again, say, ‘Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went back to bed. (1 Samuel 3:8-9 NLT)

• Eli instructed Samuel to “Go and lie down and wait for the voice”
• The frequency of His voice is always loudest when we rest.
