The Beatitude – Week 2

The Beatitude – Week 2

June 14, 2026

Beatitude comes from the Latin word Beatus, who means “Blessed” “Happy” or “Favored by God”

Jesus was redefined the meaning of being blessed. Instead of success, power, wealth, or influence, He speaks about poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek, the merciful, the peacemakers, and the persecuted.

The Kingdom of God is not built by people who demand control but by people who willingly place their lives in God’s hands.

OPENING SCRIPTURE

Blessed are the MEEK, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who HUNGER AND THIRST FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS, for they will be filled. (Matthew 5:5-6 NIV)

#1: Surrendered People Choose God’s Control Over Self-Control

Blessed are THE MEEK, for they will inherit the earth. (Matthew 5:5 NIV)

  • The Greek word for Meek is “Praus” which is strength under control.
  • Praus: A powerful war horse that had been trained to go to battle and who is under the control of its master.
  • A meek person is not powerless; but someone who has placed their power, abilities, and desires under God’s control.

Jesus is the perfect example of that. While on earth, He was fully God and also fully man.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am MEEK and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. (Matthew 11:28-30 KJV)

  • When empty and surrendered people come to Jesus they find rest.
  • The surrendered life is not a burdened life – it is a guided life.

#2: Surrendered People Trust God’s Timing Instead of Forcing Their Own Way

Trust God with His process and His timing

“BE STILL BEFORE THE LORD and WAIT patiently FOR HIM…” (Psalm 37:7-11 NIV)

  • Being still does not mean do nothing.
  • Being still means ceasing our attempts to control what belongs to God
  • Waiting on God is an act of faith, surrender that comes from a place of humility.

“HUMBLE YOURSELVES, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up IN DUE TIME.” (1 Peter 5:6 NIV)

  • Humility allows us to release control of the results.

#3: Surrendered People Develop a Deep Hunger For God’s Righteousness

A surrendered person will develop an appetite for God.

Blessed are those who HUNGER and THIRST for RIGHTEOUSNESS, for they will be filled. (Matthew 5:6 NIV)

  • Jesus intentionally uses two of the strongest human desires: hunger and thirst. These are not casual wants. They are necessities for survival.
  • Jesus is saying that Kingdom people have that same intensity when it comes to righteousness.

Righteousness means right standing with Christ.

  • It is a spiritual position you occupying because your life has been surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
  • You have traded your old position of being in the world, and you are now in a position where the righteousness of Jesus has now become your righteousness.

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that IN HIM we might BECOME THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD. (2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV)

BLESSED are the POOR IN SPIRIT, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
BLESSED are THOSE WHO MOURN, for they will be comforted. (Matthew 5:3-4)

Blessed are the empty: Emptiness makes room for God!

BLESSED are THE MEEK, for they will inherit the earth.

BLESSED are those who HUNGER and THIRST FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS, for they will be filled. (Matthew 5:6-6)

Blessed are the surrendered: Surrendered allows God room to work.
