Unless the LORD BUILDS THE HOUSE, the builders labor in vain. (Psalm 127:1 NIV)
- God is the Architect. God is the God is the Creator of the blueprint. God is the Builder.
- He does not just tell us what to build but He knows how to build it.
- We cannot build a life of purpose while leaving out the Architect, the Designer, and Creator who designed it.
- God’s blueprint carries all the wisdom we would ever need.
God’s blueprint begins with one question: Who’s First?
“You shall have no other gods before Me. (Exodus 20:3 NKJ)
The first commandment supports everything else.
Context of the 1st Commandment
And God spoke all these words, saying: “I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of THE HOUSE OF BONDAGE. “YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME. (Exodus 20:2,3 NKJ)
- The Blueprint leads us from The House of Bondage to The House of Freedom designed and build by God, The Architect.
- This first commandment was not about bondage, but about freedom from bondage.
- This first commandment was not about a religious rule, it was about relationship.
“I am your God. You are my people. Don’t replace Me. You are part of My family- God’s family”
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with GOD’S PEOPLE and also MEMBERS OF HIS HOUSEHOLD, BUILT ON THE FOUNDATION of the apostles and prophets, with CHRIST JESUS HIMSELF AS THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE. (Ephesians 2:19-20 NIV)
- No longer foreigners and strangers from the House of Bondage but “God’s People” “members of His household” and belonging to the House of Freedom.
Better insight and foundation for these scriptures:
Unless the LORD BUILDS THE HOUSE, the builders labor in vain. (Psalm 127:1 NIV)
For WE ARE GOD’S MASTERPIECE. He has CREATED us anew IN CHRIST JESUS, so we can do the good things HE PLANNED FOR us long ago. (Ephesians 2:10 NLT)
For I know THE PLANS I HAVE FOR YOU,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT)
#1: God Must Be First In Our Worship
“YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME. (Exodus 20:3 NKJ)
God says: There is a Number One spot in your life, and I don’t want to share it with anyone or anything else.
But SEEK FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. (Matthew 6:33 NKJ)
- Family finds its proper place when God is first; Work and career find their proper place when God is first; Finances find its proper place when God is first; Health finds its proper place when God is first.
God cares about our family, our work, our career, our finances, our health. But none of them are designed to sit on the throne of our hearts.
The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. (Deuteronomy 6:4-5 NKJ)
One heart. One throne. One God.
#2 God Must Be First In Our Trust
“YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME. (Exodus 20:3 NKJ)
- God: “Trust Me enough that don’t need another god”
- This House of Freedom we now live in is built on trust.
TRUST in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJ)
- Trust means surrendering everything before we obey
- Trust means acknowledging God in every area
The blueprint works when we follow the architect
This Chief Architect says: “You shall have no other gods before Me.”
The communion table reminds us that Jesus is our only way
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6 NKJ)
One Savior. One Cross. One sacrifice.
