OPENING SCRIPTURE:
Unless the LORD BUILDS THE HOUSE, the builders labor in vain. (Psalm 127:1 NIV)
Week 1: God must be first
Week 2: God’s image cannot be replaced
Week 3: God’s name must not be misrepresented.
Week 4: Stop. Rest. Remember.
We can become so busy with “important stuff” that we forget The One who is truly building our lives!
“REMEMBER the SABBATH day, to keep it HOLY. (Exodus 20:8 NKJ)
- Sabbath: to rest. To cease from work, relax, refresh oneself, or recover strength.
- Holy means consecrate unto God – God says: Give it to Me!
Six days you shall labor and do all your work but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. (Exodus 20:9-10 NKJ)
For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and RESTED THE SEVENTH DAY. Therefore the Lord BLESSED THE SABBATH DAY and HALLOWED IT. (Exodus 20:11 NKJ)
- He blessed that day. He set it apart for us to STOP-REST-REMEMBER (Worship).
The Sabbath is a declaration of freedom.
- Israelites were immersed in the Egyptian culture. They “worshipped” production.
- Declaration: I no longer belong to the house of bondage.
- Declaration: I now belong in the house of freedom.
#1: STOP. REST. REMEMBER. (Honors The Builder)
Unless the LORD BUILDS THE HOUSE, the builders labor in vain. (Psalm 127:1 NIV)
If we never stop, we will eventually forget who is actually building our lives.
Faith statement: You honor and trust the builder.
God Formed Man.
And the Lord God FORMED man of the dust of the ground, and BREATHED into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. (Genesis 2:7 NKJ)
Stop-Rest-Remember gives space for Him to work in your life.
But now, O Lord, You are OUR FATHER; WE ARE THE CLAY, and YOU OUR POTTER; And all we are the work of Your hand. (Isaiah 64:8 NKJ)
You are honoring The builder when you rest in His care.
#2: STOP-REST-REMEMBER (An Established Rhythm)
There is a rhythm to life that gives it its meaning.
God started that rhythm when His work completed.
Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed IT WAS VERY GOOD. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day. (Genesis 1:31 NKJ)
- God stop and He was satisfied with His work; He declared: “It was very good”
- STOP- REST- REMEMBER gets us in the same rhythm.
Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were FINISHED. And on the seventh day GOD ENDED HIS WORK WHICH HE HAD DONE, and HE RESTED on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then GOD BLESSED THE SEVENTH DAY AND SANCTIFIED IT, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made. (Genesis 2:2-3 NKJ)
- He rested not because is tired, He rested because His work was complete.
- Sabbath is about getting in the rhythm same with God STOP-REST-REMEMBER
#3: STOP-REST-REMEMBER (Just BE)
The Story of Mary and Martha. (Luke 10:41-42)
Nothing wrong with working and serving. They should never distract you from the main purpose: Worship!
“My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! THERE IS ONLY ONE THING WORTH BEING CONCERNED ABOUT. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10: 41-42 NLT)
Mary chose to BE. STOP-REST-REMEMBER
COME TO ME, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I WILL GIVE YOU REST. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-29 NKJ)
- This is God’s invitation to STOP-REST-REMEMBER
