OPENING SCRIPTURE:
“You are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill.” (John 6:26 NIV)
- Instead of giving them more physical bread, Jesus offers them something greater: Eternal Life.
MAIN SCRIPTURE:
“I AM THE LIVING BREAD that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. THIS BREAD IS MY FLESH, which I will give for the life of the world.” (John 6:51 NIV)
- Jesus shifts the focus from what fills the stomach to what fills the souls.’
- Jesus was making the connection to the Old Testament: The Manna.
- Jesus was saying, “I am the true manna—the bread from heaven—and if you eat this.
- His death: Jesus would sacrifice on the cross.
- Redefined worship: Jesus was offering Himself as the once-for-all sacrifice — and inviting people to partake in that through faith. It foreshadowed The Last Supper and the ministry of communion.
“You don’t just need physical bread to live another day — you need me, the Bread of Life, to live forever.”
#1 JESUS SATISFIES OUR DEEPEST HUNGER
“BLESSED are those who HUNGER AND THIRST FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS, for they will be FILLED.” (Matthew 5:6)
- Jesus was addressing the spiritual hunger and thirst.
- Jesus is challenging all of us to a life of righteousness through Him.
“For HE SATISFIES the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.” (Psalm 107:9)
The woman at the well was spiritually starving: Looking for love, for acceptance, for fulfillment. Jesus told her, “Whoever drinks the water I give will never thirst again.”

#2 JESUS GIVES ETERNAL LIFE, NOT JUST TEMPORARY RELIEF
THIS IS THE BREAD THAT CAME DOWN FROM HEAVEN. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but WHOEVER FEEDS ON THIS BREAD WILL LIVE FOREVER.” (John 6:58 NIV)
- Luke 16: The rich man had plenty of food, but had no relationship with God. Ate the manna just like his ancestors but died without knowing God. His wealth could not save him.
- Lazarus, just like his ancestors, he also ate manna. But He went searching and found the real manna, the real manna that came down from heaven. He found Jesus- Eternal Life!
Challenge: Live your life with eternity in mind.
