The Power of Choice

The Power of Choice

June 22, 2025

OPENING STATEMENT:

Life is full of choices. Every day, we are faced with decisions — big and small. But among all the choices we make, none is more important than the one God presents in Deuteronomy 30:19 – life or death, blessings or curses. God doesn’t force us — He invites us

OPENING SCRIPTURE:

“This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I HAVE SET BEFORE YOU LIFE AND DEATH, BLESSINGS AND CURSES. Now CHOOSE LIFE, so that you and your children may live.” (Deuteronomy 30:19 NIV)

• Our choices not only impact us but also the generation that comes after us.
• God gave us the power to choose freely so that our relationship with Him is based on love, not control.

#1 CHOOSING LIFE MEANS CHOOSING OBEDIENCE TO GOD

“If you LOVE me, KEEP MY COMMANDS.” (John 14:15 NIV)

• Obedience is more than feelings.
• Obedience is about denying ourselves: our impulses, our comfort, our flesh.
• Obedience is about surrendering to God’s will.

“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46 NIV)

• Obedience is the evidence of real love.
• Choosing life is not a one-time decision; it is a daily walk of obedience.

Practical Application: Start each day with a simple prayer: “Lord, help me to walk in obedience today. Help me to choose Your way over my own.”

#2 CHOOSING LIFE LEADS TO ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH CHRIST JESUS

“For God so loved the world that HE GAVE HIS ONE AND ONLY SON, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 NIV)

• God chose His Son as the ultimate sacrifice for us.
• He gives us the power of choice. Choosing Him leads to eternal life.

“For God DID NOT send his Son into the world TO CONDEMN THE WORLD, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:17 NIV)

• No condemnation.

“For the wages of SIN IS DEATH, but the GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23 NIV)

• To reject Jesus is to choose death; to receive Him is to receive life everlasting.

Practical Application: If you haven’t received Christ, today is the day. Say yes to Him.

#3 CHOOSING LIFE IMPACTS FUTURE GENERATIONS

“START CHILDREN OFF ON THE WAY THEY SHOULD GO, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”(Proverbs 22:6 NIV)

• The choices we make in raising our children, guiding them, modeling Christ for them have lasting, generational consequences.
• When you choose life by choosing God’s way, you are laying down a spiritual foundation for your children.

Practical Application: Be intentional about spiritual legacy. Pray with your children, share your faith journey with family, and model what it means to follow God. Let them see your choice to live for God in action.
