He who dwells in THE SECRET PLACE of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. (Psalm 91:1 NKJV)

What is this secret place?

It’s more than just a physical location. It is a place of intimacy with God,

A place away from the noise of life and we intentionally seek His presence.

Where is that secret place?

Anywhere and everywhere.

In OT, Moses’ Secret Place was a tent, called the Tent of Meetings.

Moses was intimate with God.

 The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. (Exodus 33:11)

• The secret place is the place where God meets you and speak to you face to face just like He did with Moses.

The Place where God meets you.

OPENING SCRIPTURE:

But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in THE SECRET PLACE; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. (Matthew 6:6 NKJ)

The Secret Place is where we stop performing for people and start pursuing God.

#1: The Secret Place Requires Intention

But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in THE SECRET PLACE (Matthew 6:6)

• The progression: Go in – Shut the door – Pray
• Not if you pray, but when you pray– intentional prayer.

Shutting the door sets the stage for a meeting with God.

• What Jesus is describing in Matthew 6 is not an accidental prayer, but an intentional pursuit.

“My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning I will direct it to You, and I will look up.” (Psalm 5:3 NKJ)

• David’s prayer life is intentional
• David’s prayer life has a rhythm every morning.
• David expectation was for God to hear him.

Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to A SOLITARY PLACE; and there He prayed. (Mark 1:35 NKJ)

• His solitary place was His secret place.
• Jesus made prayer a lifestyle. It was part of His daily rhythm.

Prayer should not be a tool for crisis management, but a tool for daily living.

#2: The Secret Place is About Relationship, Not Religion

And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13 NKJ)

God is not looking for religious performance; He is looking for relationship.

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. (James 4:8 NKJ)

This is an invitation into relationship.

• Intimacy requires proximity.
• God invites us to come closer.
• God responds to our pursuit.

Relationship over Religion

You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. (Psalm 63:1 NIV)

• David understood that only God could satisfy him.

The greatest blessing of the secret place is not what God gives us; the greatest blessing is Him.

#3: The Secret Place Becomes A Place of Discovery

One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. (Psalm 27:4 NIV)

David discovered that God’s presence was worth pursuing above everything else.

The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant. (Psalm 25:14 NKJ)

This verse connects intimacy with God to revelation- what directions do we get from God.

CONCLUSION

What is the Holy Spirit saying to you through this message?
