THE TOUCH THAT MATTERS: The Touch of the Holy Spirit
OPENING SCRIPTURE: “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 AND I WILL PRAY THE FATHER, AND HE WILL GIVE YOU ANOTHER HELPER, THAT HE MAY ABIDE WITH YOU FOREVER— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; BUT YOU KNOW HIM, FOR HE DWELLS WITH YOU AND WILL BE IN YOU. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. (John 14:15-18)
- Jesus here instructs us to obey His commandments but He knew that you and me will not be able to do it without the divine help. So he sent us His Holy Spirit.
- HE SENT HIS HOLY SPIRIT TO TOUCH US. Now this touch is not just FLEETING TOUCH but an ABIDING AND INDWELLING TOUCH . “He may abide in you forever”
“Nevertheless I tell you the truth. IT IS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE THAT I GO AWAY; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. (John 16:7)
- Why is it to our advantage that Jesus goes away?
- THE ANSWER IS RATHER SIMPLE: TOUCH
- During Jesus ministry here on earth (3.5 years), His touch was physically limited. Being fully God but also fully man, He could not reach everyone.
- He gave us The Holy Spirit so that His Touch would not be restricted by the laws of physics.
- Because of This Touch of The Holy Spirit, I can pray for and minister to you right where you are in the comfort of your home.
- Do you believe that the Holy Spirit can visit you right where you are? Bless you, heal you, teach you, and even convict or challenge you!
Throughout the Gospel of John, Jesus told us how this mighty the Holy Spirit will help us:
- THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL REMIND YOU ABOUT ALL THAT JESUS HAS TAUGHT.
“But THE COUNSELOR, THE HOLY SPIRIT — the Father will send Him in My name — will TEACH you all things and REMIND you of everything I have told you” (John 14:26).
- THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL BE A PERSONAL WITNESS TO TESTIFY ABOUT CHRIST
“When THE COUNSELOR comes, the One I will send to you from the Father — the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father — HE WILL TESTIFY ABOUT ME” (John 15:26).
- THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL CONVICT US OF SIN.
“When He comes, He will CONVICT THE WORLD ABOUT SIN, RIGHTEOUSNESS, and JUDGMENT” (John 16:8).
- THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL GUIDE YOU TO TRUTH
“When the Spirit of truth comes, HE WILL GUIDE YOU INTO ALL THE TRUTH. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak whatever He hears. He will also declare to you what is to come” (John 16:13).
- THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL BRING GLORY TO JESUS.
“He will glorify Me, because He will take from what is Mine and declare it to you” (John 16:14).
IN ACTS CHAPTER 2 GOD DELIVERS ON HIS PROMISE
On the day of Pentecost ALL THE BELIEVERS WERE MEETING TOGETHER IN ONE PLACE. 2 SUDDENLY, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and IT FILLED THE HOUSE WHERE THEY WERE SITTING. 3 Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. 4 And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.
- All the believers were meeting together in one place- (Just like now in the spirit)
- … the Holy Spirit filled the house where they were sitting
