OPENING SCRIPTURE:

This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that GOD IS LIGHT and IN HIM IS NO DARKNESS AT ALL. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the TRUTH. But if we WALK IN THE LIGHT as HE IS IN THE LIGHT, we have FELLOWSHIP WITH ONE ANOTHER, and the BLOOD OF JESUS Christ His Son CLEANSES US FROM ALL SIN. (1John 1:5-7 NKJ)

• To walk in the light is a common Christian metaphor meaning to follow Jesus, to follow His light, to allow His light to shine through us.
• To walk in the light also means that you recognize the existence of shadows, darkness. And we need the Light of God to expose them and remove them from our lives.

Why is His light so important?
• Light is a revelation of God.
• Light is a revelation of His character.
• Light is a revelation of His authority and His ability to create.

Then God said, “LET THERE BE LIGHT”; and there was LIGHT. And God saw the LIGHT, that it was GOOD; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. (Genesis 1:3-5 NKJ)

• Jesus made that connection in the NT when He revealed Himself as Elohim and The Light of The World!

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the LIGHT OF LIFE.” (John 8:12 NKJ)

• Jesus makes this revelation: I am the light when creation began; I am the light that led you out of the wilderness; I am the light of your world today!

What does I am the Light of the World mean to us? What does Walk in the Light mean to us?

#1 No more Russian Roulette with darkness

• You apply the word of God, which is His light, in your life.
• Let the word divide right and wrong.
• Let the word define the boundaries between light and darkness, life and death.

For the WORD OF GOD (The light of His Word) is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It EXPOSES our innermost thoughts and desires (Exposes Good from Evil, Exposes light from darkness). (Hebrews 4:12 NLT)

• Do that daily.

“Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between life and death (Deuteronomy 30:15)

#2 His light will light your way

YOUR WORD is a LAMP TO GUIDE MY FEET and a LIGHT FOR MY PATH. I’ve promised it once, and I’ll promise it again: I will obey your righteous regulations. (Psalm 119:105-106 NLT)

• It’s a daily act of obedience that leads to His daily promise.

But the path of the just is like the shining sun, That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day. (Proverbs 4:18 NKJ)

• As you continue to walk in the light that you know, more light will come.

#3 Reflect His Light

“YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. LET YOUR LIGHT SO SHINE BEFORE MEN, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16 NKJ)

• Jesus died so that you can reflect His light as you walk in his light.
