God Cares About your Mental Health – Part 4
March 23, 2025
Evidence that God Cares About Our Mental Health.
Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy GOOD HEALTH and that all may go well with you, even as your SOUL (Mind, will, emotions) is getting along WELL. (3 John 2 NIV)
YOU will keep in PERFECT PEACE those whose MINDS are STEADFAST, because they TRUST IN YOU. (Isaiah 26:3 NIV)
What does reframing our minds mean?
Reframing your mind, or cognitive reframing, is about consciously shifting your perspective to view situations and thoughts in a more positive, helpful, and balanced way, rather than getting stuck in negative or unproductive patterns.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy is commonly used in the counselling field.
The way you frame your world define your perception. Perception is the lens through which you view the world around you. The lens could be defective, flawed.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; DO NOT DEPEND ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING . SEEK HIS WILL in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. (Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT)
• Don’t rely on your own perception…your lens could be flawed by culture, upbringing, intellect, etc.
• Look for God’s perception, His way of doing things, His wisdom.
• Guidance and direction come when we take the time to ask Him
If our lenses are based on the world instead of the Word of God, our perception would be altered. Our framing will be altered.
• Cognitive Biases. A mistaken reasoning based on personal experiences or preferences.
What reframing tools can we use to frame our minds in a world that rejects anything that is Godly?
TOOL #1: THE WORD OF GOD
• Without the Word of God to frame our values and morality, our perception of what is true and false would drift towards the latest trend, pop culture, latest narrative.
So we must LISTEN VERY CAREFULLY to the TRUTH we have heard, or we may DRIFT AWAY from it. (Hebrews 2:1 NLT)
Without the Word of God, we have we have no standards, no moral compass.
Who should set the standard for marriage? You or God or government?
This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. (Genesis 2:24 NLT)
• God says: Marriage is a covenant between a man and woman and Him.
Who should set the standard for life of the unborn? You or God or government?
“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5 NLT)
• God says: Life begins at conception.
Without the Word of God to anchor our world view, our lives, we will drift away.
God’s word is our strong and trustworthy anchor
So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are UNCHANGEABLE because it is IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD TO LIE. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. THIS HOPE is a STRONG and TRUSTWORTHY ANCHOR for our souls. (Hebrews 6:18, 19 NLT)
TOOL#2: THANK GOD FOR WHAT HE DID NOT DO
Be THANKFUL in ALL CIRCUMSTANCES, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:18 NLT)
• Thankful in ALL CIRCUMSTANCES- that means unanswered prayers, closed doors, circumstances that are in our favor but also those who do not seem to be in our favor.
TOOL #3: LOOK FOR GOD’S GOODNESS
This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24 NLT)
• Looking for God’s goodness is a choice and again, it goes back to perspective.
• If you look for what’s bad and negative, you will find bad and negative.
• If you look for things to be critical of, you will find it.
