The Faithfulness of The Father

OPENING SCRIPTURE:
“The Lord did not set his heart on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other nations, for you were the smallest of all nations!” (Deuteronomy 7:7 NLT)

• God did not bless you because you were all of that and a bag of chips.
• God bless you because of a 4-letter word: LOVE! Unconditional Love.
• God is love. His character, His essence, is rooted in love.

Rather, it was simply that the LORD LOVES YOU, (Deuteronomy 7:8 NLT)

• YOU ARE BLESSED simply because of the LOVE of the FATHER.

“and he was KEEPING THE OATH he had sworn to your ancestors.” (Deuteronomy 7:8 NLT)

• God who is love himself, has made a promise to you TO BE HIMSELF TO YOU.

“That is why the Lord rescued you with such a strong hand from your slavery and from the oppressive hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt.” (Deuteronomy 7:8 NLT)

• God’s love for you is so unconditional that He will rescue you when you mess up.

“Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. HE IS THE FAITHFUL GOD who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands.” (Deuteronomy 7:9 NLT)

• You are blessed because of His faithfulness to love you even when you are unlovable.
• You are blessed because of His faithfulness to rescue you even when you are unsavable.

Definition of Faithfulness:
• True to one’s work, true to one’s value.
• Steady, constant, original, accurate.
• “I will keep my word”, “I will not fail you.” “I will always love you”, “I will always rescue you.”

True story:
The 1989 Armenian earthquake needed only four minutes to flatten the nation and kill thirty thousand people. In his book, “When Christ Comes,” Max Lucado recounts a true story that came after that horrific earthquake. Moments after the deadly tremor ceased, a father raced to an elementary school to save his son. When he arrived, he saw that the building had been leveled. Looking at the mass of stones and rubble, he remembered a promise he had made to his child: “No matter what happens, I’ll always be there for you.” Driven by his own promise, he found the area closest to his son’s room and began to pull back the rocks. Other parents arrived and began sobbing for their children. “It’s too late,” they told the man. “You know they are dead. You can’t help.” Even a police officer encouraged him to give up his task. But the father refused. For eight hours, then sixteen, then thirty-two, thirty-six hours he dug. His hands were raw and his energy gone, but he refused to quit.

#1 HIS FAITHFULNESS IS UNWAVERING

This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope. Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; GREAT IS YOUR FAITHFULNESS. (Lamentations 3:21-23 NKJ)
• God’s unwavering faithfulness brings hope.
• We all go through difficult times when our faith wavered.
“If we are FAITHLESS, He remains FAITHFUL” (2 Timothy 2:13 NKJ)

#2 HIS FAITHFULNESS IS GUARANTEED

“Forever, O Lord, YOUR WORD IS SETTLED in heaven. YOUR FAITHFULNESS
ENDURES TO ALL GENERATIONS; You ESTABLISHED the earth, and it ABIDES. (Psalm 119: 89-90 NKJ)

• Settled, Endures, Established, Abides speak of one thing: Guaranteed.

For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and HIS FAITHFULNESS CONTINUES TO EACH GENERATION. (Psalm 100:5 NLT)

#3 HIS FAITHFULNESS IS TRUSTWORTHY

TRUST in the LORD, and DO GOOD; DWELL in the land, and FEED on HIS FAITHFULNESS. (Psalm 37:3)

• Trust and Faithfulness are connected.
• Would you trust in His faithfulness and do good?
• Would you trust in His faithfulness and dwell in the land?

The rest of the story:
Finally, after thirty-eight wrenching hours, he pulled back a boulder and heard his son’s voice: “Dad, it’s me!” Then the boy added these priceless words, “I told the other kids not to worry. I told them if you were alive, you’d save me, and when you saved me, they’d be saved, too. Because you promised, ‘No matter what, I’ll always be there for you.’”
• The son remembered and trusted in his father’s promise: ‘No matter what, I’ll always be there for you.’
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5 NKJ)
