Welcome Home (04/07/2019)

April 6, 2019

OPENING SCRIPTURE:

“But the father said to his servants,  ‘Bring out the best ROBE and put it on him, and put a RING on his hand and SANDALS on his feet. And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ (Luke 15:22-24)

QUESTION: Can The Father say welcome home to someone who did not leave? YES

  • One can be at home and not submitted to The Father’s authority.
  • One can be a PRODIGAL and still be AT HOME!

PRODIGAL: PRODIGAL simply means UNRESTRAINED LIVING. Prodigal living here from this story means: living an unrestraint life! We can be at home and yet live a life that is not fully submitted to the Father. Unrestrained areas: Pride, Jealously, unforgiveness, rebellion

A certain man had two sons. And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood. 13 And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with PRODIGAL LIVING. (Luke 15: 11-13)

PRODIGAL LIVING CAN BE UNDETECTED

  • Prodigal living can be there but can be very subtle-undetected- under the radar

PRODIGAL LIVING DOES NOT STOP THE FATHER’S LOVE

  • From the moment His son left home, he waited with great anticipation his return

And he (the son) arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, HIS FATHER SAW HIM AND HAD COMPASSION, AND RAN AND FELL ON HIS NECK AND KISSED HIM. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ (Luke 15: 20-21)

STATEMENT: The Father did not just stop there with GRACE, COMPASSION and LOVE. HE DOES SOMETHING HERE THAT BAFFLES EVERYONE- HE NOT ONLY WELCOMES HIS SON HOME- HE RESTORES HIM

“But the father said to his servants,  ‘Bring out the best ROBE and put it on him, and put a RING on his hand and SANDALS on his feet. And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. (Luke 15:21-24)

  • He gave him the best robe: Robe of The Father’s righteousness
  • He put a ring on his finger– The Ring that carry represented the family name
  • He put sandals on his feet – The sandals reserved for a son and not a slave

RESTORATION: THE SON WAS RESTORED

CONCLUSION

  • What is the Holy Spirit saying to you?
  • The Father not only welcomes you home but He also restores you!
