Building Relationships – Part 1

Building Relationships – Part 1

August 27, 2023

The entire word of God is structured around building relationships.
God has given us 10 different building blocks to build everlasting relationships. God called them, the ten commandments.

#1: The Ten Commandments is not a list of God’s.

“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill (Matthew 5:17 NKJ)

#2: The Ten Commandments are relationship building blocks.

And God spoke all these words, saying: “I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. “YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME. (Exodus 20:2,3 NKJ)

• That’s the very first commandment and perhaps the most important building stone.

PRINCIPLE #1: A RELATIONSHIP BASED ON WHO HE IS

• “I am the Lord your God”
• God’s number one priority is a relationship with us. It has been and will always be.

“Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness” (Genesis 1:26 NKJ)

• His image and His likeness are both eternal. They cannot be altered; they cannot be changed.
• Our DNA carries His image and His likeness. That also cannot be altered or changed.

“So God created man in HIS OWN IMAGE; in the image of God He created him; MALE and FEMALE He created them”. (Genesis 1:27 NKJ)

Deception and sin came:

“Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” (Genesis 3:1 NKJ)
“You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:4-5 NKJ)

• Sin is the only thing that can break that relationship between God and you.

But YOUR INIQUITIES have SEPARATED you from your God; And YOUR SINS have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear. (Isaiah 59:2 NKJ)

• It was for this broken relationship that He sent His Son.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. (John 3:16-17)

PRINCIPLE #2: A RELATIONSHIP WHERE ONLY GOD IS WORSHIPPED

“You shall have no other gods BEFORE ME.” (Exodus 20:3 NKJ)
• “before me” from the Hebrew translation: “other than me”, or “besides me”.

I am the LORD, and there is no other; There is no God besides Me. (Isaiah 45:5 NKJ)

PRINCIPLE #3: THE STRENGTH OF THAT RELATIONSHIP DEPENDS ON US

• The strength and depth of that relationship between God and you depend on you.

“You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.”
“So the people stood afar off, BUT MOSES DREW NEAR” (Exodus 20:19, 21) NKJ)

• The people wanted the strength and depth of their relationship with God to be a by-product of Moses’ personal relationship with God.

Come close to God, and God will come close to you.

• The strength and depth of that relationship between God and you depend on you.

Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. (James 4:8 NLT)

• Loyalty in that relationship also depends on you.
