OPENING SCRIPTURE:
“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” (Proverbs 16:3 ESV)
- King Solomon’s greatest work is the rebuilding to the temple. Yet he knew that his greatest work would only stand if the Lord blessed it.
“But will God really live on earth? Why, even the highest heavens cannot contain you. How much less this Temple I have built! Nevertheless, listen to my prayer and my plea, O Lord my God. Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is making to you today. May you watch over this Temple night and day, this place where you have said, ‘My name will be there.’ May you always hear the prayers I make toward this place. May you hear the humble and earnest requests from me and your people Israel when we pray toward this place. Yes, hear us from heaven where you live, and when you hear, forgive. (1 Kings 8:27-30 NLT)
- True success comes from aligning human effort with God’s guidance.
- Your work matters to God. God values your work. But your success is defined by God’s involvement in your work.
- Ecclesiastes 1:2 – Everything is meaningless without God!
Apostle Paul who also accomplished so much in his lifetime recognizing that if the work is not committed to God, it will not stand.
IN HIS GRACE, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. (Romans 12:6-8 NLT)
The call is not to compare ourselves to others, but to commit our unique work to God and trust Him with the result.
#1 Commit to Prayer and Dependence
UNLESS THE LORD BUILDS THE HOUSE, those who build it labor in vain.” (Psalm 127:1)
- Our first step in work is not to act, but to pray.
- Prayer is the act of placing our plans in God’s hands, acknowledging that success depends on Him.
