Flip Your Story – Week 3

Flip Your Story – Week 3

May 5, 2024

Flip Your Story is about changing the narrative of Your Story.
Changing your story from your perspective back to God’s perspective.
Your perspective can be flawed but God’s perspective is flawless.

OPENING SCRIPTURE:

Looking unto Jesus, THE AUTHOR and FINISHER of our FAITH (Hebrews 12:2 NKJ)

• The author of your story is God.
• In order to Flip Your Story, you have to LOOK UNTO JESUS, the author and finisher for HIS PERSPECTIVE. WHY? His perspective is flawless!

Perception: The lens through which you view everything: your life, your career, your relationships, etc.

• Your perception can be flawed by YOUR feelings, YOUR emotions, YOUR intellect, YOUR circumstances, etc.
• Sometimes the greatest obstacle in your story is you.

The way you frame your world defines your perception.
Your lens could be flawed. But God’s lens is always flawless!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; DO NOT DEPEND ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING, SEEK HIS WILL in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. (Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT)

• Depending on your own understanding implies that God has been left out.
• Leave God out and your perception is changed. God is no longer in the driver’s seat.

Flipping Your story starts when you see your story through the lens of God.
In psychology, it is called reframing. Reframing what you see based on what God sees.

TOOL #1: THE WORD OF GOD

So we must LISTEN VERY CAREFULLY to the TRUTH we have, or we may DRIFT AWAY from it. (Hebrews 2:1 NLT)

Your perception of what is real and not can drift away without God’s word as an anchor.

So God has given both his promise and his oath (The Truth of Word). These two things are UNCHANGEABLE because it is IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD TO LIE. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. THIS HOPE is a STRONG and TRUSTWORTHY ANCHOR for our souls. (Hebrews 6:18-19 NLT)

Framing what you see, feel, and experience based on His Word!

TOOL# 2: THANK GOD FOR WHAT HE DID NOT DO

Be THANKFUL in ALL CIRCUMSTANCES, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:18 NLT)

• Thankful in ALL CIRCUMSTANCES- that means circumstances that are in our favor but also those who do not seem to be in our favor.
• Thanking God for what He has done is easy. But we must also thank Him for what He has not done.

TOOL #3: LOOK FOR GOD’S GOODNESS

This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24 NLT)

• Looking for God’s goodness is a choice. It goes back to perspective.
• If you look for what’s bad and negative, you will find bad and negative.
• If you look for things to be critical of, you will find it.

If you look for God’s goodness, you will find it.
